WELCOME TO WANSTEAD ONLINE

Wanstead has a history dating back to Saxon times, getting a mention in the 11th century Domesday book as 'Waenstade', possibly meaning the site of a farm or a settlement on a hill. But finds of Roman artefacts within Wanstead Park, including the remains of a Roman Villa in the eighteenth century (which have since been lost !), suggest a longer history of settlement here.

This website is dedicated to the history and community of Wanstead and will provide a source of historical and local information to residents and anyone interested in Wanstead past and present.
